How to Make Teething Easier for Everyone!

Teething can be a tough time for both bubs and parents – sleepless nights, agitated babies and that helpless feeling when nothing you’re doing makes your little one feel better. Here at Babies 2 Infinity we know the struggle! Our little CEO, Finn, has been cutting molars recently – it’s been rough seeing him in pain, not to mention the other side effects that come with teething including increased drooling, mild rashes due to drool, and exhaustion that comes with being unable to sleep from the pain. We’ve compiled a list of tips and tricks to help with teething and all that comes with it so that you can try them for your little one, too.

Freezing Chews
We’ve found that filling dummy teats with water and freezing them for Finn to chew on is a fantastic way to help relieve pain. The hard part helps his gums cut and the cooling effect from the frozen water gives pain relief. Other items we’ve found effective for freezing and chewing include face washers and new sponges. If your baby is going to be holding these items, a nice alternative to keep their little hands safe from the cold is to put a frozen ice cube of water, formula or breast milk into a fresh food feeder (our favourite is the Munchkin Deluxe Fresh Food Feeder). Bub can easily suck on the ice, and won’t feel the cold on their hands. If your bub is already on solids, then frozen bananas and chilled yogurts can also have a great relieving effect on your little one’s sore mouth. Freezing baby spoons is another great item, as they seem to hold to ‘chill’ for quite some time. Of course, always be aware of choking hazards!

Fight the Drool
Skin irritation from drool can really flare up when saliva gathers in the folds of the neck, and sometimes our irritated little bubs aren’t up for being wiped over every two minutes. Our bandana bibs are the perfect cut for coverage and keeping your little ones neck protected from the excessive drool that comes alongside teething. If you’re heading out for the day, our bibs are also perfect for protecting your bubs outfit – our entire range is super absorbent so you don’t have to worry about drool on shirts or having to constantly change your baby. With everything from adorable patterns to luxurious personalised bibs, you don’t even have to sacrifice your little fashionista’s style to protect their neck and clothing from the dreaded teething drool!

Sleep Easy
There are over the counter topical medications that can help numb the pain for your bub for slightly longer periods of time than typical at home methods. This might help your little one get some more rest, and teething will be easier for everyone involved when you and bub are both well rested. Depending on the age of your bub, ibuprofen might be an option but always consult your doctor and read the labels if you are unsure. Other nice distractions include a warm bath, and rubbing bubs gums with a clean finger (pressure really helps alleviate pain!).

Best of luck on your teething journey, and we hope we’ve been able to give some helpful ideas here.

Until next time!
